The Training & Certification Programme

The Africa CDC Regional Training and Certification Program for Biosafety and Biosecurity Professionals (RTCP-BBP) — explained simply.

Overview

What the programme is

The RTCP-BBP is a continental programme of the Africa CDC Biosafety and Biosecurity Initiative (BBI), delivered with the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM). Launched in 2022, it sets a single, harmonised standard for training and certifying biosafety and biosecurity professionals across all 55 African Union Member States — turning biosafety into a recognised profession.

It uses a One Health approach (human, animal, plant and environmental sectors) and gives practitioners a portable, continent-wide credential recognised wherever they work in Africa.
