The Biosafety & Biosecurity Initiative (BBI) strengthens the systems that prevent, detect and respond to accidental and deliberate biological threats — across all 55 African Union Member States, in line with IHR (2005), the Biological Weapons Convention and UNSCR 1540.
The BBI 2021–2025 Strategic Plan organises continental action around six priority areas — two enabling efforts and four operational priorities — that turn biosafety and biosecurity into a sustained, professional discipline.
